Changing Lives With Goats

Naji women receiving their goats

“Because of your gift of goats, I can now buy coffee, milk and sugar. Before I survived off the help of others.” This humble woman’s testimony was echoed by each Naji* woman we interviewed.

The Naji women have formed an association called “The Women’s Association of Milk.” The women have joined together to sell their milk and cheese to other families in their local community. “The house of milk” and the participating women know this as a means to change their lives in a very impactful manner. More important however, is that the community knows this is the best place to buy milk and cheese and that these women have had their lives and the lives of their family members changed forever!

House of Milk

AIMS has been able to supply a total of 90 goats, but the need remains great there are many more women and families still in need. Each woman we talked with said that many women are abandoned or widowed and are in need of goats for basic survival. The divorce rates are high among the Naji, leaving many women to care for their children without any way to do so. One woman said, “My children and I both survive on the goat milk.”

Naji women crossing the river with their livestock

The Naji are a pastoral people of 1.4 million whose livestock consist of goats, sheep, cattle and camels. A person’s wealth is measured by the size of their herd, and the women do most of the work. In addition to raising their children, they care for the livestock and oversee the moving and building of their homes.

The power of this project is that women, children and entire families not only receive goats, but God’s message of love. Result—thousands of Naji Muslims have already come to Christ.

Will you help? First, we need your prayers. Pray that the Holy Spirit would soften their hearts to the good news of Jesus. Second, we need funds to provide goats in our humanitarian strategy to share the gospel with the Naji people. We ask for your help in providing goats and a demonstration of God’s love for these industrious but disadvantaged women.
